A.D. Porter and Sons offers families
many options and is committed to providing quality,
meaningful services to help honor your loved ones.
Following are some of the options that
are available to families.
Visitation
Visitation services traditionally take
place either the day before the funeral service or
immediately prior on the day of services. Visitation
services may be held either at the funeral home or
place of worship. This a is time when family and friends
may come and pay their respects and express condolences
to your family member and loved one.
To add a personal touch family members may choose to
present a video presentation of their loved one and/or
place family photos or memorabilia around the visitation
room. Please talk with one of our directors about these
services.
Funeral Service
Like the visitation funeral services
may be conducted at the funeral home or in a place
of worship. Graveside services may be held at the
place of interment (burial) if the family chooses not
to utilize the funeral home or place of worship.
Funeral services may be conducted by
your priest, minister, family friend, or other worship
leader if conducted at the funeral home. Services
held at a place of worship are typically conducted
by that facility.
We encourage you to make the service
as personal (traditional or non traditional) as like.
We will provide you with tools in planning your services
during your arrangements conference.
Burial Options
Various burial options are available
to families in and out of the city. During your arrangements
conference your director will talk with you about local
burial options that will best meet the needs of your
family.
Cemeteries in Jefferson County require
an Outer Burial Container be purchased for all in ground
burials. During your arrangements conference your director
will review the options available to you. Additionally,
your director will check the laws if your loved one
is to be buried in another county.
Dove Release Service
The dove release service symbolizes
the departing spirit, watching the dove fly off to
find peace, serenity and as many believe – a new beginning.
“Oh that I had the wings of a
dove. For then I would fly away and be at rest.” Psalms
55:6
