Betty Ann Griffith (DOWNTOWN)

On Tuesday, January 23, 2024, Betty Ann Goodwin Griffith slipped quietly into a place of eternal rest after a long, well spent life. Betty Ann was born on March 15, 1937, to the late Mary Lee Winstead Corley and Larry Goodwin. Raised in Owensboro, Kentucky, she grew up in a close-knit family. She attended Western High School. She was married to her high school sweetheart William (Bill) L. Griffith. To this union 4 sons were born. She retired from the US Census Bureau after 26 years of service. Betty Ann, “Betts” (to her friends) or “GMommy” loved nothing more than spending time with her family. Her love of life was infectious, and she never met a stranger. Her devotion as a wife was unmatched. Bill was the love of her life. Throughout their 68-year marriage, she supported him in all his endeavors, and tenderly cared for him when his health failed. Betty Ann was preceded in death by her husband William L. Griffith, son Keith Griffith, grandson James Griffith, great granddaughter Keturah Blow, mother Mary Lee Corley, father Larry Goodwin, stepfather Ashley Corley, grandmother Evelyn Winstead, grandfather Smith Winstead, sister Juliusetta “Judy” Berkley, brothers Larry “Ricky” Goodwin, Bobby Goodwin, and nephew Robin Berkley. Leaving to honor and cherish her memory are her sons: William Sr. (Rhonda); Larry (Dawn), Gerry, Sr. (Jannice) and three goddaughters: Karen Hipsher, Carmen Harris, and Gertha Harris; and godson Ryan McNeil. Her twenty grandchildren include: Gwendolyn Smith (Hayden-U.S. Army retired); Ruth Peebles (Michael); Esther Blow - Atlanta, GA; Hannah Pierre (Jean) – Palm Bay, FL; Grace Young - Lexington, KY; Shawn Beason (Wanda); Dumonde Wiley; LaTonya, William, Jr., Courtney, Christina -Louisville, KY; Lauren - Detroit, MI; Matthew – Los Angeles, CA; John (Madison) - Atlanta, GA; Gerry, II - Dallas, TX (U.S. Army); Jonas - Denver, CO; Amos – Cincinnati, OH; Ebenezer – Denver, CO; and David Griffith, Terre Haute, IN. Her 25 great grandchildren: Ariana and Evelyn Smith; Madison, Eden, Michael, and Claire Peebles; Brooklyn, Preston, and Morgan Blow; Josiah, Anelise, Ezra, Ezekyel, Samuel, and Obadiah Pierre; Winter and Autumn Griffith; Shawn, Jr., Yevette, Tajaunay, Roy-Shawn, Stevon, Aaliyah, Shania, and Dalquan Beason; and a host of family and friends. Visitation: 10am-12pm Saturday, February 3, 2024 at A. D. Porter & Sons Funeral Home, 1300 W. Chestnut St., funeral to followat noon.
