Charles Andre Brown (DOWNTOWN)

Charles Andre Brown was born on March 28, 1956, in Louisville, KY. He transitioned to his heavenly home on October 5, 2023. Charles, frequently called Draddy, graduated from Central High School and went on to pursue his studies in college yet left when afforded the opportunity to work for Eastern Airlines. Charles relocated with Eastern Airlines to Miami, Florida, and it was in Florida where he met and became enamored with his wife, Mavis Renee Brown. On July 29, 1985 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL they married. Charles was quick to tell you that Mavis was the love of his life and this summer they celebrated 38 years of marriage. Charles became a mason with Prince Hall, St. Arthur Masonic Lodge #488 in Miami, Florida in 1987. His service was exemplary, and he enjoyed his time with his brothers. After Eastern Airlines closed, Charles began working for Publix Supermarket and after 22 years of service, he retired as the Assistant Deli Manager. Charles accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior and was baptized by Bishop C.E. Glover of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church. He was a faithful member and served on the Men's Ministry until he was unable to attend in person services. Charles was a happy person with a beautiful smile and large dimples. During his illness, Charles remained grateful, and would not want his wife or others to come around him and be sad. Charles believed in God and trusted him over his life and his family. His encouraging words to Mavis were "Baby, don't cry, it's going to be alright, God got us!" He was preceded in death by his parents, James Ernest Brown, Jr. and Amy Laura Brown; his sisters, Doris Y. Brown, Debra Ann Brown, Amy Olivia Brown; his brother, James Ernest Brown, III; his daughter, Shanetta Tennile, and niece, Lanee Brown. Charles was a Louisvillian in spirit and a Floridian by heart and love. He leaves to cherish his memory, his dedicated and beautiful wife, Mavis Renee Brown; sister, Lillian Joyce Peterson; brother, Michael Anthony Brown (Deborah); grandchildren, Nagel, Malachi, Kelroy, Nahailey, and Julius; best friends and bonus brothers, Bruce Bell and Arland Perry, a host of nieces, nephews, friends and family. Visitation: 10am-12pm Saturday, October 14, 2023 at A.D. Porter & Sons Funeral Home, 1300 W. Chestnut St., funeral service to follow at 12 noon. Burial: Green Meadows Cemetery.
