Jacqueline Marie Stringer-Sims (DOWNTOWN)

Jacqueline (Jackie) Marie Stringer-Sims was peacefully called home on June 27, 2025, at 2:48 p.m., surrounded by the love and comfort of her devoted husband and her two beloved sons. After a courageous and unwavering battle with illness, Jackie found peace as God gently called her home, whispering, “You have run your race… Well done, my good and faithful servant.” Jackie was born on October 11, 1962, in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late Christopher Columbus Stringer and Annabelle Russell Smith Stringer. She was the cherished younger twin of Gwendolyn Marie Stringer and grew up in a family rooted in faith, love, and resilience. She attended John F. Kennedy Elementary School and Woerner Junior High School, and graduated from Ahrens High School in 1980, where she shined as a standout basketball player. Her talent on the court led her to Kentucky State University (KSU), where she continued her basketball career with passion and grace. Jackie was a proud member of KSU’s 1981 NAIA National Championship Team and led the nation in free throw shooting percentage. She graduated from KSU with her bachelor's degree in Mathematics in 1984 and continued at KSU for graduate school earning a master’s degree in Personnel Management and later earned a second master’s degree in Information Systems from George Mason University, demonstrating her fierce intellect and unrelenting dedication to education. Jackie married the love of her life, Rick, and they were happily married for nearly 30 years (August 5, 1995). Together they built a beautiful life centered around faith, family, and purpose. From their union came two extraordinary sons, Jordan and Devon, whom Jackie adored beyond measure. She was a devoted wife and nurturing mother whose presence was the heart of her home. For 38 years, Jackie faithfully served her country as a dedicated civil servant, beginning her career in 1987 as a Cartographer at the Defense Mapping Agency. Her journey continued with distinction at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), where she held several roles, including Systems Engineer, Staff Officer, and later, Human Resource Officer in the Human Development (HD) Directorate. In each position, Jackie brought excellence, compassion, and wisdom. She mentored and uplifted countless colleagues, her depth of knowledge and commitment to service earning her numerous awards and the admiration of all who worked with her. Jackie accepted Christ at an early age and lived a life guided by her faith. She was a lifelong member of Lampton Baptist Church in Louisville before joining First Baptist Church of Vienna, where she served faithfully on the Usher Board until her transition. Her spiritual foundation was evident in her every action - always kind, generous, and full of grace. Jackie’s smile lit up every room. Her warmth was unmatched, and her love for life and people was both radiant and sincere. Whether cheering on her sons at a game, encouraging a loved one through life’s challenges, leading with grace at work, or worshiping in church, Jackie embodied love, loyalty, and light. She deeply cherished her family and created a home filled with joy, laughter, and lasting memories. Her greatest pride and joy were the bonds she built and nurtured with those she loved. Jackie was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, initiated at Beta Zeta Chapter, KSU, on April 19, 1983. Jackie was a Silver Soror and a Life Member of AKA and a member with Lambda Kappa Omega in Fairfax, VA until her transition. At her core, Jackie loved her family and friends and enjoyed life to its fullest. She leaves behind a rich legacy of love and inspiration to be cherished by her loving husband, Rick; her sons, Jordan and Devon; her mother-in-law, Annie Mae Sims; her sisters, Bertha D. Southerling, Christine L. Baccus, Gwendolyn M. Stringer, Anita Stringer, and Karen Stringer; her brothers, James H. Stringer, Sr. (Janice) and Jerry R. Stringer (deceased); her brothers-in-law, Jerome Sims (Tina) and Quenten Sims; nephews Dr. Thomas V. Montgomery, III (Lisa), James H. Stringer, Jr., and Nathan J. Anglin; nieces Tamera L. Sistrunk, Christina M. Shirley (Ronnie), Dr. Tierra D. Price, and Raenisha Sims. She is also remembered fondly by her many great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, God-children, church family, sorority sisters, colleagues, and dear friends. Jackie lived a life of purpose, love, and unwavering faith. Though she has departed from this earthly realm, her spirit lives on in every life she touched. We honor her memory with joy, gratitude, and peace, knowing that her legacy will continue to inspire for generations to come. Visitation: 10am-12pm Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Lampton Baptist Church, 1121 So. Clay St., funeral service to follow at 12pm, burial in Green Meadows.
