Mark Andre Kirkpatrick (DOWNTOWN)

Mr. Mark Andre Kirkpatrick, was born to William Allen Kirkpatrick Sr. and to Verna J. Joiner on November 24, 1956, in Louisville Kentucky. Mark attended church at an early age at New Zion Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky. In his teenage years, Mark attended Greater Bethel Temple Apostolic Church in Louisville Kentucky, which was under the leadership of Bishop David T. Schultz, 1929-1972 and later under assistant pastor, Dr. William P. Foree, 1973-1988. Mark’s parents, step-father, Jesse McKissack, and mother Verna Joiner, purchased a home in the late 1960’s in the neighborhood called Hallmark. He had a total of five siblings, which include: Nicolette Yarbrough, Michelle T. Kirkpatrick, William A. Kirkpatrick Jr, Steven P. McKissack Sr. and Carol Vargas. As a youth, Mark was very active in the Boy’s Scout of America, where he loved to go camping and fishing and learning about wild life. In the neighborhood, you would find Mark playing pickup basketball and football. He enjoyed swimming in the summer months at Algonquin Park with the neighborhood boys. In his teenage years, he also liked competing in the Junior Olympics track and field events during the summer. Mark was pretty fast and enjoyed competing. He attended Joseph S. Cotter Elementary School, Butler High School, Central High School, and Male High School. During his teenage years, his early work experience consisted of working summer youth jobs sponsored by the City of Louisville Cedar Program. He also worked at the Pendennis Club. Later, his work experience consisted of contract painting and sales. Mark worked at Robinsons - May department store in shoe sales, and at Mitsubishi Motors as a car salesman in Costa Mesa, CA. He was an excellent salesman. As a young man, he dated Jamie Hines, from that relationship they had one daughter, Aneeka Hines Ferrell. Later in life, Mark was married to the deceased Bessie Kirkpatrick. Mark Kirkpatrick, departed this life on January 31, 2024. He was preceded in death by his father William A. Kirkpatrick Sr, mother, Verna J. Joiner, and his step-father, Jesse McKissack. He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Aneeka Hines Ferrell (Harold), his grandson Harold Ferrell Jr., and his granddaughter, Brenda Ferrell. He also leaves to cherish his memory three sisters, Nicolette Yarbrough (Darryl), Michelle T. Kirkpatrick, Carol Vargas (Bruce), and two brothers, William A. Kirkpatrick Jr. (Susan), Steven P. McKissack Sr. (Gloria), three uncles, Percy Lott Joiner, Gerald Jerome Joiner (Lynn), Douglas Cooper, five aunts, Doris Fitzpatrick, Iris McPhail, Patricia Williams, Melissa Martinez, Monica Joiner, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. He will be dearly missed. Visitation: 10am-12pm Saturday, February 17, 2024 at A.D. Porter & Sons Funeral Home, 1300 W. Chestnut St., funeral service to follow at 12 noon. Burial: Green Meadows Cemetery.
