Montae LaRue Kaufman Sr

May 28, 1964 - October 3, 2021

Montae LaRue Kaufman Sr. (BamBear) 57, of Louisville went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, October 3, 2021. Montae was a 1983 graduate from Fern Creek High School and went on to earn his Paramedicine Degree from Eastern Kentucky University. During his time at E.K.U., he was a volunteer firefighter/EMT for Madison County Fire and he was a proud member of the Loud Shirt Club. Montae had a passion for protecting and serving others. He worked as a volunteer firefighter for Buechel Fire and began his career as an EMT/Paramedic/Captain for Jefferson County Emergency Medical Services. Montae received several letters of commendation for his service with Jefferson County EMS, and was the recipient of The Jefferson Award for his service during the Standard Gravure workplace shooting in September, 1989. The last 16 years of his working career were dedicated to Wellspring, where he served as Program Manager for their Crisis Stabilization Units (Samuel B. Todd & David J. Block). Montae loved to spend time with his family and loved his grand babies. He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Dr. Marcia Kaufman-Smith, Melody R. Smith (sister), Garland W. Kaufman (Pops), Elizabeth Ferguson Kaufman (Granny), Donald L. Ernspiker (Father-In-Law), Marie VanMeter (Mother-In-Law) and Thomas (Tommy) M. Woodrow (Brother-In-Law). Montae leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 33 years, Angela Ernspiker Kaufman; his three beautiful children, Tiffany Kaufman (Greg Gore), Montae LaRue Kaufman Jr (Hannah) and Brittany Kaufman; his five grandchildren, Isabelle, Jaxon, Hazel, William and Greg Gore, Jr. (Peanut); Brother - Marcus Smith, Sr., Mother-in-law, Linda Ernspiker; Brother-in-law Steven Ernspiker (Dana), Sister-in-law Deborah Woodrow Prather (Joe). He also leaves behind several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Donations can be made in his memory to Wellspring, P.O. Box 1927, Louisville, KY 40201-1927. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 12, 2021 from 11am - 1pm at A.D. Porter & Sons-Southeast, 4501 Bardstown Rd. with the funeral to follow at 1pm.
