Alice J. (Smith) Ellis

Alice J. Smith Ellis was born on July 30, 1946 in Louisville, Kentucky from the union of John and Corine Smith. At an early age, Alice accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior, and was baptized. She was a member of Forest Tabernacle Baptist Church for many years. She was a former Sunday School Teacher, Missionary Sister, and taught CPR for various churches throughout the community. Alice enjoyed “working quietly behind the scenes.” Alice graduated from Shawnee High School. Afterwards, she graduated from the former General Hospital School of Nursing as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She began her career as a dedicated nurse for many years at the former Sts. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital. Through the years, she worked at the following nursing facilities: Franciscan, Parkway, Seneca Place and Twinbook Assisted Living Facility. In addition, she provided CPR training for the new CNA Staff at Seneca Place. Alice was employed for 57 years as a nurse and cherished the opportunities of assisting her patients. She treated her patients like family and had a strong work ethic. It was important to Alice to stay active and “keep moving.” She enjoyed crocheting, watching western movies/shows, and helping others. Alice had a warm and generous heart. Alice was formerly married to David John Ellis, Sr. A son, David John Ellis, Jr., was born from the union of this marriage. Alice cherished her faith in God, family, and friends. God called Alice home on Saturday, July 29, 2023 after a battle with cancer at the age of 76. She was a resident of Signature Healthcare at Jefferson Place Nursing Facility. She is preceded in death by her mother, Corine Maxwell (Smith) Garrett; stepfather, Dock W. Garrett; and sister-in-law, Martha K. Smith. Alice is survived and loved by her son, David J. Ellis, Jr.; brother, Arthur L. Smith; sisters, Corinne J. Garrett, and Kennethia L. Garrett Peaks (Timothy); granddaughter, Daija N. Ellis of Lebanon, KY; grandsons, Tommy and Corey Moffett of Lebanon, KY; nieces, Alexandria K. Smith of Silver Spring, Maryland; Dr. Ramona Young, Lakewood Ranch, FL; nephew, Timothy W. Peaks II, and a host of other relatives, colleagues, and friends. Visitation: 10:00am-12:00pm, Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at A. D. Porter & Sons Funeral Home- Southeast, 4501 Bardstown Rd., funeral service to follow at 12:00pm. Burial: Calvary Cemetery.
